Ik wil solliciterenGreat job
In this position you will be part of an interdisciplinary team and teach within the programme Master of Arts in Fine Art & Design.
As a Tutor Situated Design, you will guide and inspire master’s students in developing critical, context-driven design practices that respond to complex social, cultural, ecological, and technological challenges. You will design and deliver engaging teaching activities, supervise student research projects, and assess outcomes at master’s level, while fostering an interdisciplinary and collaborative learning environment. In this position, you support students in building their own research-led methodologies, encouraging experimentation, reflection, and the integration of theory and practice. You contribute actively to curriculum development and the continuous improvement of the programme, while participating in research and knowledge exchange within the wider field of contemporary design. Additionally, you play a key role in mentoring students as emerging creative professionals, helping them position their work within real-world contexts and global design discourse.
Our highly ambitious and versatile institution is currently in a stage of development. As a tutor, you actively contribute to curriculum development and delivery and add to the evolving research profile of our institute. The expanded pedagogical scope of the programme has created new opportunities for interdisciplinarity and co-research within our pathways in Visual Arts and Post-Contemporary Practice, Situated Design, Health by Design and Ecology Futures. Students work together to address complex contemporary challenges, investigating research questions on visual and material culture, design methodologies, social engagement, and technological developments.
We support students by providing a learning environment for a transformative education, empowering them to become the new generation of creative leaders who will contribute in unconventional ways to transforming the complex and interconnected world we live in. The programme fosters an approach where design is inseparable from its context, encouraging experimentation, collaboration and reflective practice.
As a tutor within Avans, you help students become practitioners who are comfortable with several things, such as to diagnose conditions before intervening, work with complexity rather than simplify it, position themselves cirically within systems and recognize and navigate complexity.
Your place as a tutor within Avans
The Master of Arts in Fine Art & Design is the graduate programme of Avans Creative Innovation, which is part of the Avans University of Applied Sciences. Our programme is housed within a single campus location, close to the heart of the city of ‘s Hertogenbosch. It is a locally grounded international community of learning and research. Each year, around 50 students from all over the world join our programme.
The Master of Arts in Fine Art & Design is committed to adopting new technical advancements in interactive and creative technologies. Our outstanding workshop and technical facilities provide courses in data visualisation, VR/AR, web design related coding, non-linear immersive and iterative storytelling, spatial & location design, and interactive media – as well as access to workshops across film & photography, print, wood, ceramics and metal, which allow students to immerse themselves in innovative artistic development projects.
We form a dedicated team of artists and designers who combine teaching with their own professional practice. The international student population is reflected in our international teaching staff. Most tutors teach one day per week, so we do not often see each other on-site, yet we form a close and loyal team.
