Avans is dedicated to contributing to the resolution of societal challenges. These challenges, which are becoming increasingly complex and far-reaching, do not stop at national borders. That is why, since 2022, Avans has been part of the European collaboration network PIONEER. This is an alliance of 10 universities and universities of applied sciences from 10 different European countries.
With PIONEER, we collaborate on Sustainable Development Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. PIONEER promotes inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities and communities. We achieve this by integrating education, research, and co-creation with professional practice—leveraging each other's knowledge and expertise.
Together with our partners, we develop European research and educational initiatives that positively impact our cities, urban ecosystems, and beyond. PIONEER connects a diverse range of people, from students to researchers, and from educators to entrepreneurs. In doing so, we create an inclusive and socially responsible community, both within and beyond our campuses. By exchanging knowledge and experiences—physically and digitally—we enhance the quality of our education and increase the impact of our research.
Since 2024, PIONEER has been recognized as a European University.
