The New Materials and their Application research group explores how to optimise material use in buildings, infrastructure, machinery and products to promote sustainability. Solutions range from using fewer or alternative materials to extending their lifespan and improving recycling, repair and reuse options. Our ultimate aim is full material reuse and maximum circularity.
The research focuses on 3 main areas, aligned with Avans' relevant study programmes:
- Circular design
- Implementation of new materials and production methods
- Smart materials and active disassembly
