Nature-based Solutions exchange programme full-time

In this semester programme, you focus on providing (as much as possible) nature based solutions to increase the resilience of our environment with regards to the effects of climate change.

What is Nature-based Solutions

Worldwide, natural, urban and rural areas are under pressure. In urban areas, extreme rainfall as a result of climate change causes water nuisance. In all areas, drought and extreme heat due to climate change cause a decline in water quality and biodiversity and the ecosystem services they provide.

In order to solve these problems, you have to be able to analyse data, using statistics and geographical information systems (GIS). You learn to understand ecosystems and soil and water systems as an essential part of understanding the problems and to assess the possible solutions. You will use modelling tools to assess the situation in an area and model the effects of proposed measures.

Another aspect to finding solutions is being aware of the how to bring about actual transitions and create impact with your work. Subjects like change making, impact creation, reporting directives, ethics, critical thinking, stakeholder management etc. will be part of this.

All the things you learn here, you apply in in a client project. In a small student group you are responsible for finding a solution to a climate resilience problem. You are in the lead with regards to client communication, identifying the problem, finding solutions, applying the right decisions tools, modelling measures, visualising problems and solutions etc., resulting in a product as specified by the client.
