Avans and HZ plan to reorganise Ad education in Zuidwest-Brabant from 2027

Avans intends to continue offering its Ad programmes, which are now located in Roosendaal, in Breda, while HZ intends to continue offering its Ad programmes in Roosendaal. This would bring an end to the Associate degrees Academie (AdA) in its current form as a joint organisation of the two universities of applied sciences.

This is a proposed decision. Over the coming period, both institutions will develop the plans further. In recent years, Avans and HZ have explored various scenarios to ensure that their collaboration remains sustainable in the long term. This process has shown that achieving a financially viable business case by 2028 within the current partnership is not feasible. Avans also wants to strengthen the links between its Ad and bachelor’s programmes. HZ aims to build on its strong regional connections in Roosendaal and has signed a letter of intent with the municipality of Roosendaal to support this ambition. 

What does this mean for current students and prospective students? 

• Current students can continue their Ad programme in Roosendaal and complete it there through August 2029. 
• Avans intends to educate new students in Breda from September 2027. This applies to students starting an Avans Ad programme in the 2027–2028 academic year. Under the current plans, the following programmes will move to Breda: Business Administration, Engineering, Information Technology, Finance and Human Resource Management. 
• HZ intends to continue offering its five Ad programmes in Roosendaal, at Mill Hillplein. These are Built Environment, Logistics, Management (with the Sports Management track), Educational Professional and Social Work (with the Care & Safety track). 
• Information and recruitment activities will continue in Roosendaal as planned this academic year. Prospective students are welcome at Mill Hillplein to explore the Ad programmes offered by Avans and HZ. 

Working with regional partners 

In recent years, the Ad-academie has built a strong network of students, staff, educational institutions, businesses, organisations and other regional partners. Avans and HZ are proud of this network and grateful for these relationships. Maintaining strong links with professional practice remains essential for both institutions, including under the new arrangements from the 2027–2028 academic year. Regional partners have been informed of this development separately.
