I wanted to study a programme with the objective of preventing and mitigating the effects of climate change.

After I graduated from high school I was unsure, as many graduates are, of what I wanted to study. Universities offer a vast collection of different programmes and finding one that you believe will best suit you can sometimes be a bigger challenge than the study itself.

Climate change

I have a lot of different interests of which many are unrelated, but one thing that seemed to stand out above the rest, especially after my gap year, is my growing concern for climate change.

In the last decade it has become clearer that this is a monumental challenge that we face as a society and that this will be the defining obstacle of our generation and ultimately, the future of our species. It was after this realisation that I knew I wanted to study a programme with the objective of preventing and mitigating the effects of climate change.

Practical environment

Then I found the ESSET course offered by Avans and I knew it was exactly what I was looking for. A practically-oriented, industry-relevant and challenging study which seemed like the ideal amalgamation of my passion for Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. After the smooth application and acceptance process, I was admitted as a student to Avans in 2020 and since then I haven’t looked back. I would recommend this programme if you want to challenge yourself in a technical and practical environment while knowing that your efforts will be a positive contribution for the future of humanity.
