Avans named best university of applied sciences in the Netherlands

Avans University of Applied Sciences has come top of the Best Studies 2014 survey conducted by Elsevier weekly opinion magazine. Three Avans international study programmes played a significant role in this success.

International Business and Management Studies (IBMS), International Business and Languages (IBL) and Environmental Science for Sustainable Energy and Technology (ESSET) all finished top in the league tables that were published this week.

Elsevier conducts a survey on student satisfaction with higher education institutions in the Netherlands every year. According to the opinion magazine, Avans is clearly the country’s premier higher education institution - boasting a satisfaction rating of more than 74%. The same applies to the international study programmes IBMS, IBL and ESSET, which the students also rated best in the Netherlands.

Proud

Paul Rüpp, President of the Executive Board, is proud that Avans once again has a large number of study programmes in the top three, including the number one spots for international study programmes. He said: "We have risen further up the league table with more study programmes rated number one than last year. This is thanks to continuous quality improvements. The results confirm that we are able to sustain the positive momentum that Avans has achieved. But what's most important is that the survey shows how students value the quality of the education we offer."

The league table is based on the results of the National Student Survey, which is held every year. Around two hundred thousand students gave their views on the study programmes on offer in the Netherlands. Aspects examined in the survey include quality of lecturers, the facilities, assessment and the timetable.

In the league table, Avans leads the category of medium-sized universities of applied sciences. Eleven study programmes in total were ranked the best of their kind: an increase compared to seven study programmes in the top position last year. Five study programmes were ranked second, and five programmes came in third place. Of the total of 39 full-time bachelor's degree programmes assessed by Elsevier, 21 featured in the top 3.
